We at International Focus support the international community and local businesses by making connections, celebrating differences, and encouraging cultural understanding. Our commitment and dedication is manifested with our preparation for the 30th international festival this October 9th, 10th and 11th.
Our celebration is made possible by our ethnic groups who have supported our festival for many years by volunteering many hours to represent their country and ethnic group with pride. Their dances, landmarks, food, customs, history, music, but most importantly their pride never ceases to impress us. We are proud of the many countries we bring together under one roof in our beloved city, Raleigh.
This year we have several new attractions we are excited about:
The Art Contest: Wake County Public School Art Teachers are already on the ball. They have recruited young artists and they will be participating in the contest. Marbles Museum will display some of the art work during the summer months (see details to enter)
No registration needed. Winner will be chosen by the artist Bob Rankin and will be announced at the international festival.
The Talent Show: The talent show will take place on Sunday Oct 11th 12:00-2:00 (in Sophia's corner) the idea is to encourage our young children to share their talent, music, dance, magic tricks, etc. and gain self-confidence. They will all receive a certificate for participating (see flier for details)
Folkloric Fashion Show: Friday Oct 9th at 8:00 pm (Variety stage) we will hold our first international fashion show to showcase folkloric costumes from around the world. We encourage everyone to participate and share the art and history behind each attire. (see flier for details)
Dance Competition: Sunday October 11th at 3:30 (Main stage) we will hold our second annual dance competition. Last year, everyone had a blast, this year we are moving to main stage. We encourage you to sign up quick as the spots fill up quickly and there are only about 15 spots available, so make sure you sign up soon.
Postcards: We are still collecting postcards, so when you go home this summer, please drop us a note and send it to International Focus – 3700 National Dr. Suite 214 Raleigh NC 27612
A Picture is Worth a 1000 Words: We are collecting pictures from 30 years ago and we'd like to display them at the festival. If you can send us a few from your ethnic group participating over the years, please do, we'd love to display the festival.
